Emergency department waiting times
Surgery Waits publishes waiting times for planned surgery and none for emergency departments.
In an emergency
In an emergency, call 000. Nothing on this site tells a reader whether a condition is an emergency.
Two different waits
An emergency department wait is the time that a patient waits at an emergency department. The site holds no figure of this kind.
A planned surgery wait is the time a patient spends on a waiting list for an operation. The site reports this wait in days, as a median for each surgery at each public hospital.
What the site covers
The figures come from collections of planned surgery waiting times and cover 2024–25. The pages below show them by surgery, by hospital and by state.
Before you use these figures
Surgery Waits is not medical advice. It republishes official statistics about waiting times that have already happened. It does not recommend any hospital, doctor or treatment. Your general practitioner and your treating specialist can help you decide what is right for you.
